Reporter Tries To Get Gloria Estefan To Bash Trump, Stunned When She Does The Opposite

On Monday, a reporter spied Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan as she was arriving at Reagan National Airport following the 40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., over the weekend. Naturally, the reporter took the opportunity to try to get Estefan to bash President Donald Trump, and he was subsequently stunned when she did the exact opposite.

On Sunday, the 40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors were held in Washington, D.C., and for the first time in more than two decades, the President of the United States did not attend the ceremony. Traditionally, the president attends the honors as they are a prestigious event. However, this year, President Donald Trump decided not to attend the ceremony.

President Trump announced in August that he would not be attending. “The President and First Lady have decided not to participate in this year’s activities to allow the honorees to celebrate without any political distraction,” a statement from the White House read at the time.

“First Lady Melania Trump, along with her husband President Donald J. Trump, extend their sincerest congratulations and well wishes to all of this year’s award recipients for their many accomplishments,” the statement further said.

Other presidents who have skipped the award show include Jimmy Carter in 1979, George H.W. Bush in 1989, and Bill Clinton in 1994.

The day after the Sunday honors, a reporter spotted singer Gloria Estefan, who was honored at the annual celebration of artistic excellence, along with Lionel Richie, rapper LL Cool J., Norman Lear, the acclaimed television producer, and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade.

Recording artist Gloria Estefan expressed sincere appreciation over President Donald Trump skipping the 40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors held Sunday in Washington, D.C.

The paparazzi reporter from TMZ was surely expecting Estefan to take the opportunity he had presented to bash the president by talking about how “racist” he is, or how “bigoted,” or how he has “discriminated” against minority groups. However, the iconic singer did no such thing. Instead, she praised the president’s wisdom in knowing when to back away.

“You know what, I am thankful that he [Trump] did that,” said Estefan. “Because it took away controversy from the mix.”

“And you have somebody like Norman Lear that’s 95 and has worked his whole life to get that award,” Estefan added. “To get it mixed up with the stuff that has nothing to do with the reason we are all there…It was nice of the president to give us that. That was a very nice thing to do.”

Gloria Estefan is applauding President Trump for staying home and, for once, not stealing the spotlight from her and several other entertainment legends.

The superstar said the best part of the whole evening was when her daughter, Emily Estefan, performed. “It doesn’t get better than that,” she gushed. “That was absolutely mind-blowing.”
