For some NFL players, taking a knee simply isn’t enough. They need to take their antics to the next level so they can make it to the headlines and show the progressive crowd just how down they are with the social justice crap.
This was exactly the case with New York Giants Odell Beckham Jr. After a touchdown, Beckham celebrated by getting on all fours and raising one leg to simulate a dog taking a piss on a fire hydrant. He said afterward that the vulgar gesture was in response to President Trump’s remarks where he referred to players kneeling during the anthem as “sons of a b**ch.”
In his own words:
“I was in the end zone. I scored a touchdown. I’m a dog so I acted like a dog.”
The gesture did not sit well with Giants owner John Mara, who indicated that the issue will be dealt with internally.
Taking a knee is one thing, but some players are taking the offense a couple notches further. It was reported that several black players are engaging in a sick trend on the field where they raise their fist in a black power salute after tackling a white player. This was done by Michael Bennett, who raised a fist immediately after tackling 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer.
Would this antic be acceptable if a white player like, say, Tom Brady, did the Nazi salute after sacking a black or Jewish player? Certainly not, and the media would be calling for Brady’s head, and rightfully so. This double standard is what’s turning off Americans to sports and entertainment. Americans turn to these outlets to get away from the stresses of their life, not be lectured about politics or social justice.
Do you believe Beckham should face any disciplinary action? If so, what level of punishment is just?
